What is Web Hosting?

The group of services required to keep a website and supporting services online is called “Web hosting.” Hundreds or thousands of files and, in some cases,
databases are used to store information on your website. All of the information compromising your website resides on a powerful server, or computer. The fee
necessary to reserve space and bandwidth for your website on this server is called a “Web hosting fee.” There are a few different types of web hosting arrangements.
When you lease a portion of a server, it’s called “shared hosting.” When you own an entire server, it’s called “dedicated hosting”; either way you are simply
renting space on another computer that is connected to the internet.

hosting a website and building a website go hand in hand. And by hosting the sites we build, we’re able to eliminate the potential pitfalls that come with introducing
another vendor into the mix. If we build your site and someone else hosts it, then you may end up in a scenario where something doesn’t work, and we blame the web
hosting company, they blame us, and you as the client have no idea who to believe since this isn’t your cup of tea. You certainly aren’t required to host with Paul
Consulting Group, but we do recommend that you let us host your site since we can eliminate that potential passing of the buck.
If you are the kind of person who shops around, you’ll find that you can buy web hosting from all kinds of firms for as little as $5 per month. And Paul Consulting
charges several times that for what seems to be the same thing. Why? Well, firstly, let’s be very clear: you’re not comparing apples with apples if you’re looking at
$5/mo web hosting! Paul Consulting Group offers fully managed web hosting, which means that when we handle your web hosting, we handle all aspects of it for you.
When you need something done or need to know how to do something, you can simple call or email us, talk to a real person, and get on-the-spot results. Try calling
up one of these $5/month guys and get them to walk you through how to set up your Outlook to receive mail or check your website traffic stats. If you even get a
response, it will typically be to point you to some online FAQ or Help Desk to let you self-serve. So three hours of research later, maybe you’ll eventually figure
out how to set up that auto responder. With Paul Consulting Group’s fully managed hosting, you can call us up and we’d have the auto responder set up right there
while you’re on the phone. It’s that sort of service that makes us more expensive than the low-end web hosting shops out there.
Due to our large web development clientele, we are able to provide smooth, continuous support systems for other web requirements, such as upgrades and maintenance.
For example, if your hosting needs spike someday, we don’t have automated limits that will just turn off your site like most hosts would. We will note the spike and
if it’s a one-time thing, we just let you have it as a professional courtesy. If you spike often and are outgrowing your plan, we will discuss it with you and figure
out if you need to upgrade plans or if we need to build a new custom plan for you. All of this is just done as a part of our normal service and does not incur any
additional fees.
And of course, we provide all the other typical service standards, such as 99.99% up time guarantees, web-based email access, web stats, daily backup, etc., etc.

The Plans & Pricing:

Paul Consulting Group offers both shared and dedicated hosting plans. Our shared plans are typically suitable for clients traffic needs less than about 1000 unique
visitors per day. Beyond that, you may want to consider a dedicated server. However, this is a very general rule of thumb and there are MANY exceptions (particularly
if you have a website that requires extensive database use, high bandwidth or storage needs (i.e. media-heavy sites), or high security needs.) We will, of course
consult with you on which web hosting plan best fits you. In general, we tend to suggest that you start small and grow into more robust hosting plans as your needs
dictate.

Small Business Static Web Hosting Plan: $50/mo.
|
This is our entry level plan for ‘normal’ web hosting. It allows for everything that a typical website would need for moderate usage:
Up to 500MB of disk space
Up to 5GB of disk transfer (bandwidth)
Daily backup of all files and databases
Email Access (POP3 and Webmail).
MySQL Database support
Full domain support (including domain parking, forwarding, aliasing, subdomains, etc.)

Professional Web Hosting Plan: $100/mo.
|
This plan includes everything in the Business plan, as well as these additional features:
Up to 1GB of disk space
Up to 10GB of disk transfer (bandwidth)
Automated Jobs (if your website requires automated services to happen based on regular recurrence such as e-mailing users every night, you need this.)

Need a Custom Hosting solution?
Hosting plans for more complex needs are quoted on a case by case basis.

Add-ons
Dedicated IP and Secure Server (SSL) Certificates: +$15/mo.

If your site requires secure server technology, you’ll need a secure server certificate and dedicated IP address. We’ll advise you if you need this, but in
general, any sites that use ecommerce or transmit any sort of sensitive information will need this.

Additional Domains: +$5/mo.
|
If you would like Paul Consulting Group to purchase and maintain additional domains, we can take that burden off you as well.
Paul Consulting Group bills hosting charges on a quarterly basis.
